Nicole Chevalier



Nicole Chevalier studied literature, theater and voice with Virginia Zeani at Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A.) where she received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music in 1998. She continued her vocal studies receiving a Performance Diploma in 2000 at The Julliard School in New York City with Trish McCaffrey. While studying in New York she performed the title role in Carlisle Floyd's Opera, Susannah, at New York City Opera.

Her european debut came in 2001 when she appeared at "La Piccola Scala Festival" and "International Opera Festival Rom" in Italy in the following roles: Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Alice Ford (Falstaff).

From 2003-2007 she became a member of Theater Freiburg's ensemble in Germany where she sang: Iphise (Dardanus, Rameau), Ilia (Idomeneo), Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte), Maria Stuarda (Maria Stuarda) and Adina (The Elxisir of Love). It was however, Nicole Chevalier's celebrated interpretation of Lucia in Donizetti's, Lucia di Lammermoor that led to her nomination for "Best Singer" in the international opera magazine, Opernwelt in 2005.

From 2007-2009 she was engaged at the Kassel State Opera Theater and sang such leading roles as: Antonia and Giulietta (The Tales of Hoffmann), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Iole (Hercules, Händel), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Blanche (Dialogue of the Carmelites). Ms. Chevalier overwhelmed her audiences also in Kassel and once again won the respect of the press with her outstanding interpretation of Lucia. In 2009 she was nominated for a second time by Opernwelt for "Best Singer".

Nicole Chevalier is also a well respected concert singer.
She made her debut at the Bregenz Festival in 2007 with the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra under the musical direction of Kirill Petrenko, (Soprano Solo, Spring Symphony, Op.44, Benjamin Britten).
She performed with the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gabriel Feltz, (Lieder der Märchenprinzessin, Szymanowski).
With the Kassel State Orchestra she sang Debussy's, La Damoiselle Elue and Honegger's, Le Roi David under Patrik Ringborg.
Together with the Freiburg Bachchoir and Orchestra under Hans Michael Beuerle, she sang the soprano solo in Verdi's, Requiem and produced a CD of this concert .

Nicole Chevalier has worked with various international conductors, including:
Howard Arman, Kirill Petrenko, Gregor Bühl, Alexander Drcar, Gabriel Feltz, Hans Michael Beuerle, Marco Boemi, Wolfgang Bozic. Karen Kamensek, Imré Pallo, Ivan Repusic and Patrik Ringborg.

In 2010 she debuted the role of Margarethe (Faust, Gounod) at the Kassel State Opera Theater and in that same year also made her concert debut with the Munich Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2009/2010 Nicole Chevalier is a member of the Hanover State Opera ensemble. There she can be heard performing:
Micaela (Carmen), Contessa di Folleville (Il Viaggio a Reims), Gilda (Rigoletto), Constanza (The Abduction of Serail), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Marie (The Daughter of the Regiment), 1st Lady (The Magic Flute), Woglinde (Rheingold) as well as her signature role, Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor).

At the end of 2010, Nicole Chevalier celebrated a great success with her debut at the Vienna Volksoper as Constanza in Mozart's, Abduction of Serail.

In 2012/2013 Nicole Chevalier will join the ensemble at the Komische Oper in Berlin. There she can be heard in such roles as: Constanza (The Abduction of Seralio), Gilda (Rigoletto), Iphigenie (Iphigenie auf Tauris, Gluck) and Violetta (La Traviata) to name a few.
